Linden Avenue Roadway Improvements: Resident Update

The Township will soon begin a roadway improvement project along Linden Avenue utilizing over $300,000 in funding from the 2024 NJDOT Municipal Aid Grant (originally announced in November 2023). Construction is expected to be completed early Summer, weather permitting.

Planned construction work will include:

  • Curbing, where needed
  • Sidewalk repairs, where needed
  • Tree removal and replacement
  • Catch basin reconstruction
  • Milling and paving of the roadway

In addition, several improvements identified in the Linden Avenue Walkable Community Study (visit the Neighborhood Traffic & Safety Committee for Study details) will be implemented to enhance roadway safety and accessibility for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. These recommendations have been discussed and presented during several Township Council meetings as part of the public review process. Planned improvements include:

  • New traffic markings such as bicycle lanes, stop bars, crosswalks, and centerlines in key areas
  • A striped island and edge-of-road shoulder to create narrowed lanes at the Peckman Bridge
  • Striped/painted crosswalk extensions with flexible, ground-mounted delineators at Brookside, Derwent, and Cumberland
  • Painted traffic control measures between Grove and Fairview Avenue

To provide residents with more information and answer questions, the Township held a public information meeting on Monday, March 16 at 7:00 PM in the Verona Community Center Ballroom (880 Bloomfield Ave.). A recording of the meeting is available on YouTube or see below.

The community will be alerted through the Township’s AlertVerona emergency notification system throughout construction with important updates. Residents who are not currently signed up for AlertVerona can register at VeronaNJ.org by selecting the “Emergency Alerts” button.
