PSE&G is scheduled to begin upgrading Verona's gas infrastructure on Monday, September 21st. This utility-funded project is intended to support the safety and reliability of the gas system by upgrading an aging underground gas infrastructure.
PSE&G anticipates two crews working in town each day, primarily on the east side of Verona (see attached map below). The PSE&G subcontractor conducting this work is Roman E&G Corporation. The project includes replacing aging gas main piping, repiping residences, and updating gas meters.
What To Expect
Work will generally take place Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., with adjusted hours of approximately 9 a.m.–2 p.m. for work near schools. Occasional Saturday work is also possible.
Crews will dig trenches to install new piping. Trenches will be backfilled and temporarily patched at the end of each workday. Residents should expect construction activity, temporary traffic changes, noise, and heavy equipment. Local access will be maintained throughout construction.
PSE&G will contact affected property owners when appointments are needed to connect service lines and gas meters to the new gas main. During this work, gas service may be interrupted for approximately 2–4 hours. If a meter is located inside a home or business, PSE&G may relocate it outdoors as part of the upgrade.
This initiative is expected to occur over the span of approximately ten months depending on weather and construction conditions.
Parking
Please follow all posted parking restrictions. “No Parking” signs will be posted 24–48 hours before scheduled work on each street. The Verona Police Department will relax overnight parking enforcement in the immediate areas where work is being performed.
Restoration
The Township recognizes that extended utility work can be disruptive and is committed to working with PSE&G to help protect residents and ensure that affected areas are properly restored. PSE&G will restore disturbed grass, concrete, and asphalt areas, with roadway paving completed as needed—from curb to center or curb to curb—once work in each project area is complete.
