Verona Mayor and Council Honor Verona Lions Club for 75 Years of Service

Mayor Tamburro along with members of the Verona Township Council recently recognized the Verona Lions Club for 75 years of dedicated service to the Verona community and beyond, with a proclamation presented during the June 8, 2026 Township Council Meeting.

The proclamation highlighted the Verona Lions Club’s longstanding commitment to service, philanthropy, and community betterment. For more than 75 years, the organization has made a meaningful difference in the lives of Verona residents through a wide range of initiatives. Among its most notable contributions is the operation of the Hospital Loan Closet, which provides individuals and families with access to essential medical equipment, including wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches. The Verona Lions Club also supports vision-related causes through its eyeglass collection program and broader efforts aimed at preventing blindness, restoring sight, improving eye health, and assisting those with visual impairments. In addition, the Club proudly supports Camp Marcella, a specialized summer camp that provides enriching experiences for children with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities.

In recent years, the Verona Lions Club has expanded its humanitarian efforts beyond the local community. The organization has helped send more than $35,000 worth of medical equipment to hospitals in Ukraine and has supported the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee in its ongoing relief efforts.

Closer to home, the Verona Lions Club continues to enhance the quality of life for residents by helping maintain bus stop shelters throughout the Township and supporting a variety of local community initiatives. Most recently, the Verona Lions Club made a generous $20,000 contribution toward the purchase of a new electric vehicle for Verona's Medical Transportation Program. This investment will help ensure affordable and reliable transportation for Verona and Cedar Grove residents traveling to medical appointments, hospitals, and healthcare facilities throughout the region.

The Township of Verona extends its sincere gratitude and congratulations to the Verona Lions Club on this remarkable milestone and thanks its members—past and present—for 75 years of unwavering service, generosity, and community leadership.
