Important Snow Removal & Parking Regulations

Snow Removal


  • All snow must be removed from walkways within 24 hours of snowfall
  • Disposal of snow in the street is NOT permitted. This creates hazardous conditions for drivers and snow plows
  • Fire hydrants must be shoveled out and accessible
  • Be thoughtful of your neighbors by ensuring crosswalks are fully cleared for pedestrians
  • Clear any obstructions near the curb including items like basketball nets and similar items
  • Failure to comply may result in a summons and/or fees


§ 460-7

Removal of snow and ice required; lien for noncompliance.


A. The owner or tenant of land fronting upon any street or public place (intended to include private streets open to the public) within the limits of the Township where a sidewalk has been graded shall, within 24 hours after a fall of snow or after a freezing of water into ice upon any sidewalk of whatsoever kind, in front of such land, remove such snow or ice from such sidewalks in front of such lands owned or occupied by them, and no such snow or ice shall be thrown onto the public street. Where snow or ice shall have become frozen to sidewalk so that it cannot be removed therefrom, such owner or tenant shall cause such snow or ice to be covered with sand or a comparable material.


B. In case of the refusal or neglect of such owner or tenant of land thereof to comply with this section, the Council may cause such snow or ice to be removed from such sidewalks, and the cost of removing such snow or ice as ascertained by the Council, with interest thereon, shall be added to and form a part of the taxes next to be levied and assessed upon such land, and shall be a lien upon such lands until the same shall be paid.


Street Parking is Suspended Starting 7AM Sunday, 1/25/26


  • All vehicles must be removed when snow covered to allow the Township to safely conduct snow removal operations
  • Vehicles may be parked in Verona Municipal Lot #1 (located off of Park Place).
  • Failure to comply may result in a summons and/or your vehicle being towed:
  • Summons Fee: $55 (payable to NJMC)
  • Tow Fee: $125 (payable to tow company)


§ 140-25 

Designation of snow emergency no-parking areas.

A. Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the street or highway, no vehicle shall be parked on either side of any of the streets or parts thereof described in Schedule XIX (§ 140-53) attached to and made a part of this chapter.

B. The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.


§ 140-27 

Removal of vehicles.

Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation of this article shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic and any police officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner of such vehicle shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession of such vehicle.


§ 140-53

No Parking During Snow Emergency: No Parking During Declared Emergencies

A. In accordance with the provisions of § 140-25, no person shall park a vehicle upon either side of any of the streets or parts of streets thereof listed below whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the street or highway: All streets within the municipality.


B. In accordance with the provisions of § 140-26B, no person shall park a vehicle upon any of the streets or parts of streets thereof listed below whenever the Sheriff of Essex County or his designee has declared an emergency:
