Verona broke ground at Everett Field, marking the beginning of the anticipated renovation project. With the Verona Baseball and Softball League’s (VBSL) summer season concluded, work can now begin.
Everett Field will have a new grass/sod field, backstop, perimeter fencing, netting, batting cages, and dugouts. The grass field will improve stormwater management, reduce soil erosion, and aid water conservation, all while providing a safer playing surface with a lower injury risk. Maintaining a grass field while enhancing the park’s features will ensure that all players can improve their skills in high-quality facilities.
New features at Everett Field include an Inclusive Playground, new ADA pedestrian walkways throughout the facility, accessible bleachers and restrooms, and a newly paved ADA-compliant parking lot with over 50 spaces. The township received a $750,000 grant through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and their “Jake’s Law” program, which provides towns with funds to build ADA-compliant playgrounds. With these additions, children of all abilities will be able to enjoy their time at Everett Field.
Funding for this project also came from a $100,000 grant from the state’s Community Development Block Grant, an initiative that encourages economic development and community revitalization. The fundraising efforts of the VBSL have also been critical to moving this project forward.
Other infrastructural changes include improvements to the field’s drainage system, retaining wall, lighting, and landscaping. These improvements will improve stormwater management, maximize privacy for residential properties neighboring the field, and screen light and noise. Landscaping changes are being done in close collaboration with the Shade Tree Commission and the Verona Environmental Committee.
On April 21, the Township announced the renovation project in a public presentation at a town council meeting. Anthony Kurus from Neglia Group, the contractor directing the renovation project, provided an overview of the goals and expectations for the Everett Field renovation. The meeting can be viewed here and is summarized here.
Construction is expected to finish on or about April 4, 2026, in time for VBSL’s opening day.
