In honor of Earth Day the Verona Environmental Commission will host a tree seedling giveaway and cleanup at Grove Park, located at 42 Grove Avenue in Verona, on April 22nd from 8 am to 12 noon. 

The tree giveaway is open to all New Jersey residents as part of the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign. The commission is working with the municipal government and the Department of Environmental Protection to distribute 300 free trees with planting instructions, available on a first come, first served basis. The Commission will also host a cleanup during the event to keep the park and nature preserve safe for people and wildlife.

Residents should plant the seedlings within two days after pick-up in order to prevent the roots from drying out. The goal of the Tree Recovery Campaign is to distribute over 500,000 tree seedlings to New Jersey residents over the course of the next five years.
