REGISTRATION FOR THE SUMMER PLAYGROUNDS WILL BE AT VERONA RECREATION IN THE VCC ON THESE DATES ONLY:

Thursday nights, May 1 and 15 from 5:00-8:00pm Saturdays, May 3 and 17 from 9:00am-noon

PRE-SCHOOLERS and GOING INTO KINDERGARTEN in September 2008 TOT-LOT- (MUST BE 4 BY 10/1/08) Held at the Brookdale Ave. School Hours weekdays from 9:00-11:30 and 1:00-3:00-lunch by arrangement, bring your own lunch if babysitting set up. STATE LICENSED DAY CARE CENTER. When registering for Tot-Lot you must show a birth certificate and have a note or immunization record from a physician stating that the child is up to date on immunizations and free from contagious disease. Note/immunization record must be attached to form.

GOING INTO 1st& 2nd GRADE in September 2008 PRIMARY PARK-For those children who are going into first and second. Held at Laning Avenue School Hours-9:00am -3:00pm.-supervised lunch, bring your own lunch. See separate list of trips/events

GOING INTO 3rd& 4th GRADE in September 2008 ELEMENTARY ZONE-for children going into third and fourth. Held at F.N.Brown Hours 9:00am-3:00pm. Supervised lunch hour, bring your own lunch. See separate list of trips/events

GOING INTO 5ththru 8th GRADE in September 2008 SUMMER ADVENTURE-for children going into fifth thru eighth grades. Held at Verona High School Hours 9:00-3:00 with a supervised lunch, bring your own lunch. Parents may give permission for children to leave at noon if desired. See separate list of trips/events

PLAYGROUND CARNIVAL will be held Tuesday July 29th at the VCC from 6- 8 pm

EXTRA SUMMER CAMPS AND ACTIVITIES

Summer Tennis Lessons and Suburban Tennis Team – There will be separate flyer and sign-ups for tennis – look for flyer to come out in the near future. Lessons will be held Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and team matches will be held Tuesdays and Fridays. Lessons will be $30.00 and team is $45. If doing lessons, please add the $15 fee.

Summer Art – Classes begin week July 8, 9 & 10 for 4 weeks Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Classes offered are Beginning Art for children going into 1st, 2nd, 3rd grades 9:00-9:50; Advanced Drawing & Painting for children going into grades 4-8 10:00-10:50 and Intro to Visual for children going into 4th through 8th grades 11:00-12:30 $85.00-1st class $50.00-2nd class for same child LIMITED PROGRAM Program at Laning Ave. School

Men’s Summer Basketball League – Flyers and registration will begin late May. Look for information to come out later. League will begin in June. Team fee is $200.00

Summer Yoga- Family Yoga with children ages 3-8 Mondays, June 30, July 7, 14, 21 & 28 Teen Yoga ages 13 to 17 year old boys and girls Wednesday June 25, July 9, 16, 23 & 30 Time 6:15-7:00pm $ 40.00/person - price adjusted on more than Three family members. FIREWORKS Wednesday JULY 2nd at Verona High School DJ Entertainment starting at 7pm Fireworks starting at dusk rain date July 3rd

Verona Recreation Looking for Buddy/Mentors
The Verona Recreation Department is currently looking for Middle School and High School students to train to become mentors/buddies for Verona children attending summer recreation playgrounds. Without the assistance of mentors, differently-abled children might be unable to participate. Potential mentors will receive approximately 3 hours of free training and will be under the supervision of adults at all times. The training will be held in March.

Mentors will receive a certificate upon completing the course, and the experience can be used towards current community service requirements or may help with college applications which value community service. Any student who may have an interest in pursuing a career in special education will also gain valuable insight.

If you are interested in participating in this program or would like more information, please call the Verona Recreation Department at 973-857-4830 or stop by the Verona Community Center to pick an application. The summer playgrounds begin in late June and continue into the first week of August, but if your time is more limited, any commitment is welcomed.
