Public Safety Statistics
1. The majority of speeders on your street live right in your neighborhood.
2. A person hit by a vehicle traveling 30 mph is three times more likely to die than one traveling 25 mph.
3. 4,200 lives could be saved each year if 90% of the U.S. population wore seat belts.
4. Each year, STOP sign violations are associated with approximately 200 fatal crashes and 17,00 non-fatal injury crashes.

Child Safety Reminders
1. Always make sure your child is buckled up.
2. Always make sure your child is in an approved safety seat or booster seat.
3. Teach your child to cross the street properly and to use the nearest crosswalk when available.  Make sure they stop, look and listen to make sure the road is clear before crossing.
4. Make sure your child wears the proper helmet and pads when riding a bike, scooter or skateboard and when skating. NO HELMET- NO WHEELS
5. Always know where your child is and who they are with.

Vacation Reminders-before leaving your home
1. Make sure all doors and windows are locked
2. Ask a neighbor to take in your mail and pick up daily newspapers.
3. Arrange to have your lawn cut if it’s needed.
4. Let someone know when you are leaving and when you expect to return.
5. Install timers to turn your lights on and off.
6. Always leave a contact number in case of an emergency.

PSC Winter Reminders
Residents must clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours of a storm.

Please help our volunteer fire department by digging out fire hydrants in your neighborhood.

Before driving make sure ALL of your car WINDOWS are COMPLETELY CLEARED of frost, snow or ice. Also, remove snow from the roof and hood of your car to prevent it from flying off and causing an accident and/or injury.

 

Public Safety Committee meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the month, September thru June, at 7:30 in the Conference Room at Town Hall.

To improve the overall safety of the community by recommending and implementing safety initiatives, raising community awareness of safety concerns and to serve as a forum for community input on matters of public safety.

Deer Crossings
Deer are becoming a common sight as you drive through Verona and the surrounding towns. If you see one grazing by the side of the road, or on someone's lawn, there are probably more nearby. The deer can move quickly and dart into the street without any warning. BE ALERT - DRIVE WITH CAUTION
