Summary of Recent Activities
The Verona Landmarks Preservation Commission:
- Is reviewing the existing preservation ordinance to ensure it meets
the needs of the community, bring it in line with other municipalities
in New Jersey, and clarifies the standards, procedures, and criteria
that will preserve our town’s landmarks.
- Worked with the Planning Board to update the Historic Preservation
Element of the Master Plan, as required by ordinance.
- Began to identify a plan of action to survey and nominate sites in
the Township. The first site to be listed in the Master Plan as a
designated landmark is the Freight Shed, located on the corner of Depot
Street and Personette Avenue.
- Launched this website, which will provide residents with easy access
to the ordinance, information about the historic sites noted in the
Master Plan, and contact information for the Commission members. The
ultimate goal is to make this website a resource for residences who are
undertaking a restoration of their homes, even if the homes are not
designated as landmark sites.
