Rabies Clinic
The Verona Health Department announces a free rabies clinic on Thursday, May 15 at the Town garage on Ozone Avenue. Animals should not be fed for several hours prior to the clinic.

Dogs will be seen from 6:00-6:45 pm and cats from 6:45-7:30pm. If you have any questions, please contact the Verona Health Department at 973-857-4800.

Grandparents Camp
The Salvation Army has a wonderful Grandparents camp. Grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren on a regular basis are eligible. The Camp is divided into two areas and during the week of Aug. 5th-11th the Grandmothers/grandfathers go to one side of the camp and the grandchildren (eligible ages 7-12) go to the other side of the camp. They can of course see each other and have some joint activities while they are at camp however the idea is to provide respite for the grandparent and a camp experience for the child.

I visited the camp and it is lovely. The grandparents lodge is like a hotel setting with private rooms and bath and a lovely dinning room. There are ice cream socials and special get togethers with other grandparents. The children have a traditional camp experience. It is free and the only eligibility requirement is the care of a child/children by the grand parent.

Interested persons can call Connie at the Health Dept. 973-857-4800

Colon Cancer Program
Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of death today. The good news is, if detected early it can be successfully treated. A quick, easy and inexpensive test has been developed which can be done in the privacy of your own home. It is an improvement over older forms of this test, which were cumbersome and had to be read by a physician or lab. Now you can do your own test and results are yours to send to your own physician for follow up. The test detects the presence of occult blood (which means hidden or unseen) which can be an indicator of an existing problem.

Colon cancer has no symptoms until it is in the later stages. This simple test can save your life.

Free Kits and education will be available on March 10th 9 a.m. – 11, the Verona Health Department, 880 Bloomfield Avenue. No appointment is required. The program is being made available through the Health Department in cooperation with Mountainside Hospital.

Persons with questions may call the Health Dept. 973-857-4800.
